Single flash memory has a limited number of program/erase cycles. If the controller cannot manage the program/erase pattern well, the whole device may fail in extreme situations. Mtron's Hydra flash management has the most advanced and unique wear-leveling algorithm to spread data evenly across the whole drive. Hydra Flash Management supports both Dynamic and Static wear-leveling whereas others support only one. As a result, the Hydra Flash Management algorithm can extend the lifespan of a 32GB SSD to 140 years when sequentially writing 50GB per day.
Flash memory usually contains a number of bad blocks at the manufacturing stage and generates new bad blocks during use. The Mtron Hydra Flash Management algorithm efficiently detects these new bad blocks and substitutes them with reserved blocks, updating all necessary data contained within. This practice further enhances the overall lifespan and reliability of the SSD.
The bit data stored in flash memory sometimes changes erratically, causing errors. Hydra Flash Management detects these errors and corrects them in a most powerful and advanced way. Its powerful ECC mechanism with advanced protocols minimizes byte errors per page. It can detect and correct errors up to 7 bits per 512byte page where others can only handle up to 2 or 4 bit. This advanced Hydra Flash Management can additionally extend the life of a flash block, resulting in enhanced reliability. |
