Before starting, remember to give your SSD a quick check-up. Back up those precious photos, documents, and files to another storage device.
Ensure your portable SSD is properly connected to your computer via a USB or other appropriate cable.
Windows System:
• Press Win+R, type “diskmgmt.msc”, and press Enter to open the Disk Management tool.
• In the Disk Management tool, locate and identify your portable SSD.
macOS System:
• Open the “Applications” folder, then find and open “Disk Utility” in the “Utilities” folder.
• In Disk Utility, locate and identify your portable SSD.
Windows System:
• In the Disk Management tool, right-click the partition or the entire disk of your portable SSD and select “Format.”
• In the pop-up window, select the file system type (such as NTFS, exFAT, etc.). Choose the appropriate file system based on your needs.
• Check the “Quick Format” option to speed up the formatting process (if disk checking and repair are unnecessary).
• Click the “Start” button to begin the formatting process.
macOS System:
• In Disk Utility, select your portable SSD, then click the “Erase” button.
• In the pop-up window, select the file system type (such as APFS, Mac OS Extended, etc.) and enter a name (optional).
• Click the “Erase” button to start the formatting process.
The formatting process may take some time, depending on the capacity and performance of the SSD. Please be patient until the formatting is complete.
After formatting, ensure that the SSD capacity and file system type meet your expectations. You can view the relevant information in the Disk Management tool or File Explorer.
